Core Stability Training

As explained in the introduction, the core muscles underpin the skill and efficiency of movement.

Through learning to specifically activate the stabilising muscles via core stability exercises, we can:

  • Manage back pain
  • Aid injury recovery
  •  Assist surgical rehabilitation
  • Improve posture
  • Increase function and efficiency
  • Enhance athletic performance
  • Reduce the chances of developing back pain

Learning to use the core muscles is about skill acquisition so that they work automatically throughout the day to provide support to the heavily loaded spine. In order to train these muscles requires following 6 specific principles:

·        Concentration

·         Centreing

·         Control

·         Flow

·         Precision

·         Breathing

Using these principles when performing core exercises promotes the correct use of the muscles and also assists the brain in registering the role of the core in spinal stability.

Once this activation and understanding has been achieved then it can be transferred to the everyday activity and function of our daily lifestyles.
